Locally known as the Pawi is a bird in the chachalaca, guan, and curassow family Cracidae, endemic to the island of Trinidad. It is a large bird, somewhat resembling a turkey in appearance, and research has shown that its nearest living relative is the blue-throated piping guan from South America. In this photo (taken 1st August 2022) A father (the mother flew before the picture was taken) is seen here with two juvenile chicks on a palm tree ‘showing them the ropes’. As the parents are seen fairly often around the estate we consider ourselves very fortunate to have them breed and bring forth healthy chicks.
